James J. DeMartis (1926 - 1996) was an American painter of the post-World War II generation who explored a wide variety of styles and media; he is best known for his abstract expressionist works. DeMartis’ late style between the 1980s and 1990s has been characterized as “a blend of romantic realism and abstract expressionism. Landscapes, figures, still lifes and abstract works dominate his subject matter. The paint is applied in a lush impasto and lyric flowing line.”
